Oopsie Daisy

Well, there is already a hiccup with my New Year's Goals.  Yesterday I proudly announced to Kimberly that in the new year, I planned to bake bread with her each month.  I was prepared for a big grin and a burst of enthusiasm.  Instead, she stared in me in disbelief and slowly wrinkled up her nose and said, "Mommy!  Bread?  Seriously?"

It was another disconcerting change-of-life moment, and evidence that my memory is not what it used to be.  Until Kimberly was three, she was intolerant of wheat products and to this day, she is insistent that she is allergic to bread.  She eats bicuits, muffins, cookies, rolls, but never loaf bread.   Because her brother had a serious peanut allergy, we had to be extremely careful and she assumed that included bread too.  Because we also have family with serious bee allergies, she knows what an anaphylactic reaction looks like and how to use an epi-pen shot.  She wants know part of it, so she will not even touch a bread wrapper.

So, here's to flexibility.  Bake something with Kimberly once a month. :-)

I am grateful that the Lord made Kimberly independent and efficient.  Perhaps she will keep me straight.  Maybe she won't even realize that she does not have the same Mommy the older kids had.  That's OK though.  I might not have as much memory and energy, but I am more relaxed and a bit grandmotherly.

  1. I enjoyed reading this post and actually laughed out loud when I read this: "I might not have as much memory and energy, but I am more relaxed and a bit grandmotherly." Oh Lori!!! :)

I am quite impressed at the fact that you are actually doing it -- you are blogging! And you have been working on your side bar too! Yup, this is definitely beginning to look a lot like a real blog! :)
