Our front porch is a welcoming spot. Even if we are in a
hurry, old rockers, badly in need of TLC, a creaky old swing, an aged church pew,
weather worn steps all whisper for us to sit a spell. On a bright sunny day
with a cool breeze blowing, it was hard to resist. It was such a busy day, I almost
passed up my daughter’s offer to make my lunch.
Then I remembered, there is no "to-do" list more important than the
treasure that is right in my hand. My once little “girl”
is now all grown up. Gone are the days of playing back yard vet an on to the days as Cardiac E.R. nursing. We are blessed that she has chosen to nest with us. Swiftly fly the days.
I love having our adult children live with us. Yes, it is a delicate balance of cooperation and respect, but it is a delight when you children become true friends.
From the beginning, she has had a heart to serve whether it is in my humble kitchen, an ER cram packed with trauma, an orphanage in Haiti or to a stranger that crosses her path.
This nurse of mine faces crisis and chaos day after day in the E.R.. She sees life hang in the balance, but on this quiet day off, she simply fixed my lunch. As I tackled a list of pressing details, I could hear the chopping, smell the sauteing. The minute she called out, "It's ready!", I hurried to join her on the front porch . . . a quiet, semi-uninterrupted lunch; to sit, to savor, to chat and laugh and catch up . . . I always got time for that! :-)

I love, Love, LOVE this post! So sweet! I am overcome with sadness and sentimental thoughts today, as my 5th born, Joe, left yesterday. Left home, as in forever. He has moved to Florida to start working before he weds his young bride in a month. How can it be? I was not ready to lose him to adulthood and marriage so soon. :(
ReplyDeleteSeasons come and seasons go. The view changes from our front porch . . .
Anyway, your porch looks very inviting and is probably several degrees cooler than mine! :) wish I were there now to sit a spell and drink some of your lemonade and have Lizzy make me a beautiful lunch and maybe even spill a tear or two . . .
Thanks for sharing!
Forgot to mention how much I love your "stained glass porch window!" :) Very creative and well done!
